AHIMA’s Two New COVID Query Templates Now Available
CHICAGO – May 12, 2020 – Given the urgent need to care for and treat COVID-19 patients, the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) has released two query templates that will help clinical documentation integrity (CDI) professionals ensure the integrity and quality of a patient’s health record. Quest Diagnostics, the leading provider of diagnostic information services, is providing the templates as electronic forms that can be accessed through its Quanum™ Enterprise Content Solutions (formerly ChartMaxx) product line.
“We are pleased to see Quest Diagnostics recognize the value of AHIMA’s COVID-19 query templates,” said AHIMA CEO Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE. “These templates make it easier to document the virus, which saves time for medical providers so they can focus on patient care.”
Quest is providing the templates for its customers to promote quality documentation supporting COVID-19 response. The templates provide clear guidelines for the type of data, such as symptoms and risk factors, that is required to accurately document the virus.
“Properly captured health data is important to inform patient care, disease tracking and public health response for COVID-19,” said Tom Romeo, General Manager, Healthcare IT (HCIT) for Quest Diagnostics. “Through our Quanum™ Enterprise Content Solutions, Quest Diagnostics has the framework to facilitate proper data capture and coding for COVID-19 at the providerlevel. We are pleased to work with AHIMA to help their members access these tools. The need for effective forms management is elevated during this pandemic, as it is a critical link to assisting physician workflows by ensuring the clinical documentation matches the care provided.”
CDI refers to a process to ensure certain types of health care data, including symptoms and severity, is accurately documented in the patient record created by health organizations, such as hospitals. Quality documentation can affect patient care, public health reporting and reimbursement for care.
