AHIMA, Purdue University Global Team Up to Offer Online Education to Health Information Students and Professionals
CHICAGO – Oct. 14, 2020 – The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and Purdue University Global announced today they're collaborating to make it easier than ever for health information (HI) students and professionals to complete the educational training they need to excel in an evolving field.
AHIMA will offer 13 medical coding and reimbursement online courses that allow students to earn an AHIMA Medical Coding and Reimbursement Micro-credential in just 13 weeks. The micro-credential demonstrates medical coding competency and prepares students to become an AHIMA-certified professional while accelerating their path to an academic certificate or degree.
Purdue University Global will recognize each course with academic transfer credit, and AHIMA members will receive a 20 percent discount on Purdue University Global courses to complete an undergraduate certificate or degree program.
"The collaboration between AHIMA and Purdue University Global is a huge win for HI students and professionals," said AHIMA CEO Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE. "Learners will have the opportunity to maximize their time and monetary investment. It's an unparalleled value."
Keith L. Smith, MA, EdD, MBA, LM, RMHC, the vice president and dean of health sciences at Purdue University Global, said the alliance with AHIMA will include stackable education options to help learners and working adults achieve their goals more efficiently. Learners who receive the AHIMA Medical Coding and Reimbursement Micro-credential will only need to complete three additional courses to earn the Purdue University Global Medical Billing and Coding Certificate. They will also have completed 25 percent of the credits required to earn a bachelor's degree in health information management from Purdue University Global.
"We hope students who earn the AHIMA Medical Coding and Reimbursement Micro-credential consider Purdue University Global as they continue on their education journey," Smith said.
