About this Session
MIPS bonuses for physicians are calculated in part by determining the severity of illness of their patients against inpatient and outpatient utilization. High cost due to high utilization often indicates that providers are not capturing all patient comorbidities in an encounter, making their patients look healthier than they are. CMS uses the hierarchical condition categories (HCCs) of Medicare Advantage plans to calculate patient morbidity, and physicians need help in improving their documentation for HCC capture. This session is geared toward coders or practice managers who can help physicians improve documentation and, in that way, improve their MIPS bonuses.
