About this Session

Educational Session

The Cures Act Final Rule recently defined electronic health information (EHI) as equivalent to electronic protected health information (ePHI) that is included in the designated record set (DRS) under HIPAA. Yet, despite being defined in regulation and guidance, the definition of the designated record set is expansive, and covered entities are generally left to define for themselves which records are part of their DRS. Join experts from AHIMA, the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), and the Electronic Health Record Association (EHRA) as they release findings from their report that examines key issues related to defining and operationalizing EHI and DRS definitions for purposes of information blocking and health IT certification criteria.
